First Defender Forum – Training on Canadian labor law for Mexican Defenders: Day 2

Today the Mexican Defenders completed their training on the temporary worker programs to Canada, and the labor laws that protect migrants. The trainer was Andrea Galvez, the UFCW’s liaison to Mexico and Central America. She moved from Mexico to Canada at age 15. Over the past few years, she has worked for the largest private union in Canada, UFCW, as an organizer for temporary workers. Recently, she returned to Mexico to open an UFCW office.

Defender Network Forum – Day One

Over the next two days, we will examine every area of our work with the Defenders as individual organizations and as a Network. In the morning we focused on Case Facilitations, the process where we partner a U.S. organization with a Defender to provide local litigation support for migrants who were exploited in the U.S. but have returned to Guatemala or Mexico. The day covered technical aspects, such as the paperwork and internal processes, as well as sharing experiences in the various aspects of the work.
