Juxtlahuaca, Oaxaca, Mexico February 18, 2009

After a 7-hour bus trip, Griselda arrived yesterday afternoon in Juxtlahuaca, Oaxaca. This visit took her to check-in with our Defender Frente Indigena de Organizaciones Binacionales (FIOB). FIOB has been very busy and is about to launch a series of trainings through their Women’s Rights project. Unfortunately, in the Mixtec area of Juxtlahuaca many of the men have migrated in search of a better life, leaving the women behind to fend for themselves but due to cultural traditions that treat women as secondary citizens, they are not in a position to provide for their families.
