As Mexico battles a number of dangerous fronts, from organized crime to crimes against human rights defenders, the second day began with a 3-hour training about security issues and protocols to prepare the Defenders for any situation that they may encounter while working in their states. Many of the Defenders already have established protocols that they use everyday, so it was taking these new techniques and incorporating them into their existing protocols to improve their safety.

PCS Conference Day Three

The final day of the PCS conference focused on gender issues. PCS hired an organization in Costa Rica to provide an evaluation of how gender issues are handled by their grantee organizations (both internally and in the execution of their programs) and then to offer a plan of action to help the organizations be more gender aware. The morning included exercises to raise awareness of the challenges women in the region face, from unequal household responsibilities to the glass ceiling.
